pocket 8s
loooooose 5/10 limit holdem game
been playing 4 hr.s good reads on the players hero is on the button with black dog balls 2 players limp Hero calls with 88 sb raises bb and everyone else calls five players 10 small bets Flop is 7 4 7 rainbow sb bets 3 callers 14 small bets I ?? heres a little background sb is 70ish and new to the game (An ablolutly horrible player). Often he plays overcards and small pairs like the nuts calling, betting and raising to the river. The others at the table have noticed this and have been slowplaying him regularly to the turn raising and check raising after he bets. With this many callers I figure an overcard on the turn will kill me and of course a raise won't push anyone out. Im pretty sure Ive got sb beat and I probly have the best hand right now. |

Re: pocket 8s
when you think you have the best hand, you raise. It's simple
A raise here on the flop will also tell you if someone has flopped a set, or a full house. If you raise, and get re-raised, you can be quite sure you're up against 7x, or 44. |

Re: pocket 8s
You are in a horrible spot since a raise gets you nowhere and the next card probably lets someone suck out on you. I think the only way you can play this is to peel one here and hope you get a good card (under to board or an 8). Then you can raise the turn. Getting 14-1 here in position with the big bets coming I think you are +EV to just call flop.

Re: pocket 8s
Well I think calling here is the worst you can do.
If you call on the flop, you are forced to call on the turn too, since you don't have any idea where you stand. If you raise on the flop, you get information, and make the limpers pay for their draws. If now someone bets on the turn, it is much easier to fold if the turn is a scary card. Remember, the bets double on the turn, and that is the thing that plays a key role here. |

A raise isnt going to tell me squat because most will call after putting in the first call in this big pot. Then on the turn I have very few safe cards that can fall (any overcard is a scarecard and many small cards make a str8). plus I dont want to [censored] on my hand now if i do hit a miricle 8. |

Then play poker on the turn if I didnt hit a miricle. With the reads I thought that a call may be +EV especially with Mr. Donkey betting into me. Without the reads I dont know. |

Re: pocket 8s
I raise this preflop to help disguise my hand and gain a little more information. As played I just call the flop and re-evaluate turn.

Re: pocket 8s
From the sound of things, I believe you have the implied odds to call and no reason to raise.

Re: pocket 8s
I peeled one off and the miricle 8 fell on the turn. Donkey said later he had AK and another player had 56 for a str8 the turn was four bet and the river was two bet I raked in a big pot.
