Default Do you ever consider folding QQ?

Minor rebuy live tournament. 9 of 40 players remain, 6 will cash. Blinds at 30k/15k. Chip stacks vary between 100k and 300k. Solid players left playing for value, mostly fighting for the blinds. Hero with 110k in chips in the cutoff with QQ. One folds, foe with 120k in chips raise to 60k, 3 fold.

Do you ever consider folding this?

push

the bet looks frightening but his range is much wider than KK+ and you have no time left.

Yeah, I figured that he would go allin with any pair tens and lower and AJ. Minimum raise just shouts for a call. That would mean AK(s), AA, KK, QQ (unlikely), JJ, maybe AQs.

It sure could be AA or KK.

It also could be T3o posing as AA/KK.

With this stack size, closing in on the bubble, no I dont fold QQ.

I folded QQ once in this spot and posted it and everyone laughed at me. Then I told my friend, who is a borderline bohemian and who doesn't know the difference between K9 and QQ, that I folded QQ in this spot. And he was like "why did you fold that?"

I see your fear here and it is legitimate, but this kind of raise could mean 44, AQ, or AA/KK. Just get it in.

You can't fold. Frankly, the 60k raise is kind of dumb unless the guy has AA/KK and is looking for a call. It's a great raise if that's the case, but it's a terrible raise with anything else.

Just as an example, you have to know your opponent a little to make calls with some other hands. For instance, three handed in a 2 table a week ago I knew this player was a bit of an fancy play whore and that he was afraid of situations and therefore if he bet weird, it meant he was probably afraid of his hand but committed. Just a human error sort of thing. These were both 3-handed:

Blinds 250/500
Villain, button (2900)
SB
Hero (9,500)

Villain raises to 1500, SB folds, Hero calls with A9s, Villain shows 44.

At the same time, sometimes you just know because villain will be playing aggro and smart and will all of a sudden throw in a loop raise that will just stink of a big hand.

So:
Blinds 200/400

Villain (5500)
SB
Hero (6,044)

Villain raises to 800, SB folds, Hero pushes with AsQs, Villain calls with QQ.

I'm not advocating a fold on the second hand, but it just goes to show you that villain could have rubbish or a nervous hand that he bets to look strong and then commit himself to anyway. You don't know, but with QQ, I like your chances.

Barry
