Default negative resistance

My trainer has been throwing in some exercises where he will have me do negative resistance. I.e. on the chest press machine, I will press the weight, so my arms are extended, and he will lean against it and tell me to resist for 1 minute. Or, he'll have me do a preacher curl, and hold the bar midway thru the motion for 1 minute. Any thoughts on this type of exercise?

It can help you gain strength at that point in the motion fairly effectively.

If your trainer is having you go from machine to machine. . . I would get a new trainer.
