Check or bet?

This is from a hand review session. I recommend one thing and player did something else. (Three guesses as to who did what) Curious as to your opinion here.

Here is what we know of opponents. SB is new player on 2nd orbit. Table has handed him a few pots so far, he hasn't shown much but hasn't had reason to yet either, both time he won out of blinds with a bet where everyone else folded.

Not too much knowledge on Button other than knowing he is a sheriff who doesn't value bet. Has called down with K50 on AKx board with overaggressive preflop raiser (unless he's brain dead he had to know about the aggro guy) and called down with AJ on A turn against somewhat tighter player. Has folded on a few hands if he misses on the flop so I peg him so far as typical calling station with a any piece style. Clearly limping on the button is a sign of weakness I am pretty sure I range his holdings as broadway or small pockets.

I'm firing. If I'm called in 2 spots, I assume I'm behind.

If button calls, I feel like his range could be wide open. Pocket pair, any piece of the board, a face card. If he is calling down with K hi, my flop bet could be the last bet I put in.

If button folds and SB calls, I'm puttin him on a draw and c betting a safe turn card, checking behind a nasty.

Sox are awesome.

i would check here. i think in later position or on the button i could bet if it's checked to me. i don't hate a bet but i think checking is a little better.

I don't see the relationship between this situation and the one talked about in the article:

Assumptions:

The action goes as follows:
It is folded to the button who raises. The SB folds and the BB calls.

that board gives the calling station a lot of draws and this is a small pot. I dont hate a bet.....we have a gutshot and it might win the pot right there. A bet might let us see river for 'free'.

this is the sort of spot where mindlessly betting and cbetting has caused me lots of spewage. sometimes i bet sometimes i check. I think i'd be more inclined to bet if the two villians were in each others seats.

I think Im betting this more than Im checking..but not by much and it really depends what my image is.....against unknowns who appear to be calling stations it is more if a check than a bet. flipit and have a plan.
