i think double dragon II is suffering from the fact that a lot of people (such as myself) only played the original. after researching it, i see DDII is probably superior because it had two player co-op mode, however, since i never played it, i ended up voting for super mario 2. in retrospect, i'd like to change my vote.

edit: also, mega man 2 is definitely the best of the series. most notable omissions from the sweet 16 are river city ransom, ninja gaiden, and rc pro-am, imo. too many marios and sports games. but hey, this is a democracy.

I'm not following these polls (I think the revised ones were MUCH better and should be up, instead), so I don't know if it was in the original 64... but, Battletoads wasn't all that great. The action was fun, and some of the moves were innovative- but damn. The game was WAY too hard for the average kid. It's nice that they put a lot of variety in it, but with the difficulty ratcheted up so high, most people never got to see a lot of the interesting levels. It certainly doesn't mean the game was bad, but I think that keeps it from being one of the very best.

What's up with the lack of respect for TMNT II? That game was awesome.

seriously, im pretty sure everytime i tilt the slightest playing poker it is a direct result of never being able to get past that [censored] rocket sled level in battletoads no matter how hard i tried or how many hours i put in when i was like 10

also if you don't think tecmo superbowl is the greatest game of all time you really should think long and hard about whether or not you are actually attracted to women

TMNT II was definitely a great game, but it's up against freaking Contra. No brainer, imo.

why play tmnt II on nintendo when you can play it in the arcade (for ~$4.00 per run through...)?
