Best lubes for jerking off

I mentioned in another forum that I'm having problems with beating off and a couple times now my head's gone flaky and inflamed and kinda raw looking. Someone suggested I buy lube. I'm kinda embarrassed to do this because I guess I'd have to go into a shop and purchase it at the counter, is all. But if I can get over my initial fears, what's the best lubes that you can recommend I use pls?
