New-to-the-table raises in the CO, a loose/passive Button cold-calls, a truly terrible SB (the reason I'm in the game) cold-calls and I make it 3-bets with red JJ.

SB checks, I bet, CO raises, Button folds, SB calls two cold (he'll call here with ANYTHING he saw the flop with), I 3-bet, the CO caps, the SB calls, I call.

SB checks, I check intending to check/raise with the intention of folding to a 3-bet....

I don't like checking here because I think a decent % (maybe 20%) of villians range is a flush draw that he will probably take the free card with. Bet/call.

I think bet-call, your range is narrow from the BB 3-betting with the preflop action, if button caps for the free card he won't get cocky and bet here I feel.

And call the river.

Anyway, I hate any plan that involves your putting two bets in on the turn and not seeing a river/showdown, particuarly when you'd just about be getting pot odds to draw to a J. Depending on the looseness of the player I would bet-call, check-call, or c/raise-call. BUT I WOULDN'T FOLD.

The distribution of his range at this point is something like 1/3 each FDs, better hands, and worse hands, so you should bet / call.

I would bet/call the turn. As people said this prevents him from taking a free card with a flush draw (or an overplayed A4 that decides it wants to check...this happens), plus you lose less when behind since you shouldn't be folding to a 3bet after you checkraise.

Also, it is not at all impossible that CO has 2 pair on this board, even something like 92s or 54o. I play these games all the time and those hands wouldn't really surprise me and against them you have more outs, as you know.

You should try to avoid making heroic folds against unknowns in aggressive games, especially when you will be getting something between 17:1 and 19:1 and often have 2 outs.
