Help purchasing LCD TV

i'm looking to purchase a reliable and high quality LCD television. my price cap is like 3k, more if i can't get a decent 52 incher for around that price. i'm pretty clueless as to which brands i'm looking for other than sony is good stuff.

Just look at contrast ratio
Resolution
Etc.

DLP is too big and bulky, i need the extra space.

plasma is good i hear, but it sucks for halo so that's a no go.

w/ projectors it has to be dark in the room

so im going with LCD
