Ive seen the video and it is absolutely true. What saved the guys life is the fact that the helmet (or cranial as its called) was pulled off his head and went down the engine first and basically trashed the motor so it wasnt turning after the kid got sucked down. Ive been told that the sailor in question actually climbed out of the inlet and started wandering towards the edge of the flight deck in a complete daze and was tackled by somone else who saw him about to walk over the side.

I'm guessing most recruits pay close attention to their surroundings on the flight deck after seeing that then...

Are flight officers douchebags like their lame counterpart Surface Warfare officers?

How many women who serve aboard carriers DON'T get knocked up?

What's the male/female ratio aboard carriers?

Do you guys have a tavern or something? Or is it dry until liberty?

Are most of the guys paranoid about what their wifes are doing back home, ala Jarhead?

How is the food?

What do you do for entertainment?

You would think so but you would surprised by the numbers of accidents that occur just due to inattentiveness or sheer carelessness.

The general douchebaggery of most Surface Warfare officers is well known in the aviation community and the answer to your question is a resounding no, with a few exceptions.

1. I dont know but its a good question, as it happens fairly often.

2. Im not sure but I am going to guesstimate around 10-15%.

3. No tavern or other. If wer are at sea for a certain number of days without a liberty call, then we get a "beer day" where we are allowed to drink 2 whole beers. This is one area where the Brits, and even the French, have our military beaten handily.

1. Most arent, some are, and there are many horror stories out there, e.g. guy returns home from cruise and finds his house cleaned out, no sign of wifey (who he met and married only several months before deploying).

2. Food ranges from barely edible to surprisingly good. The main problem with food is that it gets rather repetitious after a while.

3. Read, play video games, work out, watch TV/movies, sleep, choking the chicken.

What would the consequences be for pulling one of those top gun fly bys in the real world?
