Sean Penn cozy with Chavez?
Apparently he's getting cozy with Chavez now. Chavez praises Penn
Didn't he learn his lesson the first time around with Saddam? I can respect (although I don't agree) with his postion in Iraq and he was one of the only celebrities that actually took action during Katrina, so I think his heart is in the right place. But how on earth does he not realize he's being used by someone like Chavez? |

Anti-US = good. |

But how on earth does he not realize he's being used by someone like Chavez? [/ QUOTE ] Because he thinks that hanging out with a dictator one step removed from Joseph Stalin will make him seem cool and interesting. He will be praised by all the people he thinks are so smart and that approval is so important. |

Re: Sean Penn cozy with Chavez?
If offered, I'd meet with Chavez too. Has nothing to do with liking his politics; I'd meet with any head of state if invited. Why would you pass it up?

Re: Sean Penn cozy with Chavez?
I'd pass it up because Chavez is a socialist. Democracy now. Democracy for everyone. Free Markets for all. If Chavez can't figure out why that's a good thing, than he is obviously far below me intellectually and would probably get defensive when faced with my superior philosophical ability. I know going in that I'd piss him off. I don't like to waste time with people like that.

Re: Sean Penn cozy with Chavez?
Maybe Penn wants to be used? I'm not really familiar with Chavez's domestic policies, but if he's as socialist as all of you say he is, they probably skew toward anti-poverty programs and other aid targeted to the poor. I'd bet that Penn favors those policies and considers them a model for the 3rd world.

Re: Sean Penn cozy with Chavez?
Whether or not you like Sean Penn, his movies, his causes, etc.
I admire the fact that as an American he uses his freedom to do something he feels is right. Whether he is right or not is not the issue. I'm proud to live in a country where one of it citizens can go and visit someone who's pretty high on the Government hate list and not suffer anything but some bad press. |
