My student is crazy (volunteering is fun)

I tutor twice a week for this non profit in town. Two of my students showed up last night, 50 year old black lady who I've been trying to teach to read for a few months (call her Reader) and a 70 something black woman who is stretching all of my patience trying to learn basic math. Math Lady.

I left the room for a moment last night, and after class Reader and I were talking. She told me that while I was out of the room Math Lady turned to her and chewed her out. "I hear you struggling with those words, what's wrong with you!!! Just read! Stop messing up, just read! You're black, you can read! You shouldn't be in here, you should be reading!"

The organizations entire purpose is teaching adults to read. I don't know why Math Lady comes there, but at least she's amusing.

why are we learning math at 70 when the black life expectancy is like....40 (i know. 65-70)

not to say you can't learn your whole life....I'd be a student forever if I could...I just wonder why...if its just for fun or what?

When you say black, do you mean of the non caucasian persuasion?
