Only nits and internet kids every have problems relating to chip counts. Player A asks for a chip count, Player B gives an approximate count and that's almost always the end of it.

Hardly anyone ever refuses to show his/her chips, or requests counts down to the dollar. In those (very rare) cases, I'll direct a player to move his hands or give an approximate count myself, and life goes on.

Very interesting to read the various opinions. I guess I'm surprised at the interest in this question. I posted it because I'm in the process of transitioning from playing mainly limit HE online to more and more NLHE at B&Ms (thanks UIGEA). Just wanted to say thanks to all who have contributed to this very informative thread.
