This sounds just like Varsity Blues. I can't imagine Varsity Blues without nudity and cursing, but I guess I will check it out if you guys say so.

This show is pretty much the opposite of Varsity Blues. Texas HS Football is where the similarities begin and end.

Dids: I'm sorta hoping the Buddy/Santiago subplot spins off into a wacky new sitcom.

Varsity Blues obviously owes something to FNL the book, but it's a cliche, hamfisted version of the story with that kind of stupid writing that can't just cope with somebody being a dick, but needs to make them fundamentally evil to position them as a villan.

FNL the series is one of the more sophsticatedly written (save the football) shows on TV. There's a decent amount of moral ambiguity and the characters register as real humans.

That's sorta where I see it going too. Landry always was sorta the lighthearted side of the show in the first season, the scenes with him weren't particularly intense. Now, obviously, Landry's character is facing serious adversity and the show could use at least one lighter side. Buddy living with Santiago is exactly that in my eyes. Obviously the conditions bringing them together are less than comical but they still could end up being a bit of an "Odd Couple" type deal and I wouldn't dislike that one bit.

A kid in smash's spot is definitely thinking about going pro. I mean, he knows what football is about, he knows he's going to have to wait some years and play a lot of cfb (compared to basketball), but it's completely realistic to see Smash think not just about the school/academic quality, but liek what puts him in the best spot to go pro.

Last episode of the season, and likely the series. This makes me sad

Where did you read that? They previewed next week's episode so there's at least one more and I read that they got 15 episodes done before the strike. Tonight was episode 8 so I think there's plenty more to go yet. As far as whether it can survive another season with bad ratings, who knows?
