Old school mac games
It's not the premiere gaming platform, but the mac has had its fair share of very fun games. The first couple found their way to the PC as well (Dark Forces was a simultaneous release, AFAIK), but I consider them Mac games because I never heard of anyone playing them on a PC.
Dark Forces Basically Quake, but in the star wars universe. It wasn't "truly" 3-d, but you could aim up/down. Boba Fett was damn tough to beat. Marathon An excellent (for its time) FPS from Bungie. You may have heard of the company, but before '96 the game was mac-only. Apeiron The best Centipede clone I've ever played, from Ambrosia Software. Tetris Max IMO, this was the best version of "standard" Tetris ever created. It was a mac only, and is probably impossible to find these days. I'd pay $10 or whatever for an OS X build of it, though. --- Let's add to the list, and if there are any current gems out there fill us in! |

Re: Old school mac games
Marathon is amazing. Bungie is arguably the greatest PC gaming company next to Blizzard. Marathon, Myth 1-2 (aka best RTT games ever), and teh Halos. Although Halo looked much more pwn when it was supposed to be an RTS.
Also, bungie.net remains the best multiplayer matchmaker ever. It literally takes a steaming chilli dump all over battle.net. |

Re: Old school mac games
What was the game where you controlled a guy, and his arm and you threw rocks at birds trying to kill you? It was an old mac game as I remember it in the dorms back in 89.

I remember some game where you were this circular space ship controlled by the mouse and you had to run into stars. I wasted tons of time on that.

Marathon: Durandal is coming to XBox live.
On topic, The Secret of Monkey Island - or that Indiana Jones adventure game. Both so much fun back then. |

Re: Old school mac games
Marathon and Myth 1/2 ate up my weekends for a year. The ranking system on myth made me play it forever trying to get past the prince ranking.

Re: Old school mac games
There was a game I used to play at a friends house that was a ripoff of Star Trek. Instead of Romulans there were Rulans and instead of Klignons there were Klingons or something like that. Anyone know the name of this game and even better if there is some place I can get it and get it to run on a windows machine?
