Taking offense -- *warning: serious biznis inside*

Warning is serious, this is not a joke post:

I don't understand why there's such a concern about people "taking offense" to racism here in BBV. In general, taking offense to something on its own is a little absurd. I mean, if you don't like what someone is saying, then deal with it. Words are words.
However, in some cases, certain slurs/racism can encourage a feeling of resentment towards particular groups of people. Which is bad (racism=evil). However, this shouldn't happen if "racist" comments are said in jest and the audience is intelligent enough to make the distinction. In BBV, that's typically, if not always, the case.
I believe that, in general, the context of a racial slur has a profound effect on its "offensiveness". I also don't believe I've seen any actual offensive racism in BBV. Banning someone for actually being racist is +EV, but banning for "racist" humor isn't.

summary:
"LOL HES BLACK AND THEREFORE ONLY GOOD FOR MANUAL LABOR LIKE THE REST OF HIS KIND" can be funny/nonoffensive if it's clearly sarcastic/satirical/otherwise funny so plz calm down adanthar/gild and drop your "zero tolerance."
Use some judgement rather than facist anti-free speech policies plz.

This basically sums up my bbv experience. I ask people nicely to do something (lock the thread, and ask nicely to post concerns in atf or send in pm). People ignore what I said and now here we are.

Please follow directions and post in atf or address the issues to Ryan via pm.

Here are directions for people who missed in the two stickies in each forum and in the post in that thread:

summary:

-ethnic/racial slurs are no no (all slurs, not just the n-word)
-enforcing tone/trying to cut down on flaming
-tempbans will be handed out liberally for this from now on
-this policy will be revisited at a later date pending bbv not being dumb

If people have any more questions or want to complain, take it to ATF (not bbv/bbv4l) or pm myself, Adanthar, or Ryan.
