Beating 5/10 NL doesn't necessarily imply tournament skill, or live play skill although you'd probably do pretty well in the early stages. But there's variance to consider too. 10K on a one shot deal (plus travel and hotel) that could get you nothing even after several grueling days may not be the best strategy if your bankroll is only 30-50k.

I can beat 5/10 online and have absolutely no interest whatsoever in going to WSOP. I think this is pretty common although I can't say I've talked to many people about it.

As for the OP I have no idea and don't really see the point in trying to find such a number

On a related note, not everyone that can beat 5/10NL grinds it.

over 500k hands of datamining, that only 4 players total on the whole site were beating the game at 2/4nl for over 4 PTBB/100.

say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa? there is no way this can be true...

edit: unless somehow his 500k database had like 50 players in it with 10k hands a piece.

I think in the largest database in the world his figure is probably right. 500k hands probably only has 30k hands from each of the regs.

I was talking to a buddy of mine whom I haven't seen since the WSOP and, as always, conversation came about to online poker. He told me that he put about 10k online and then, being a lot smarter than your average person, started datamining the [censored] out of Full Tilt (I believe). He found out over 500k hands of datamining, that only 4 players total on the whole site were beating the game at 2/4nl for over 4 PTBB/100. These are his words, not mine, but you can extrapolate from there and the picture does not look good.

I think theres a pretty big difference between 2/4 and 5/10+ in this regard though. Mainly because, if you can beat 2/4 over a large sample, you usually move up to 3/6, and so on. I think that theres something wrong with anybody who puts in 50k+ hands at 2/4 while winning at that rate. But its a pretty steep slope once you get above 5/10, and continually moving up is more and more difficult.

i think that its a pretty dumb question since if we can table select, a winning 3-6 player (4ptbb/100 +) could probably beat 100-200. Yes he would be playing like 200 hands a year but he could beat it.

I'm in the same boat. I could see myself playing in the ME someday when $10k really doesn't matter at all to me, but even then it'd be for the experience of it and to say I did it basically.

As a purely money making venture big MTTs lead to all sorts of frustration and hassle imo. They take forever, require massive amounts of luck to win big and getting busted from say a $1000 buy-in tourney after several hours of playing feels infinitely worse than losing a buy-in at 5/10.

i honestly think that perhaps 5-10k people, perhaps more, have the skill set necessary to beat 5/10 right now. The vast majority are busy doing other things (tourneys, live play, playing higher, playing lower, omaha, doing a real job etc....)

stigmata, no fken way, lol.

no way there's more than like 1k people that can beat it, and not more than say 400 that can beat it in the major sites.

timex,

if joe hachem can beat 2-4, i will cut off my left nut

i have played plenty of 10-20 and 25-50 for him and... uhh.. no. let's just say no.
