I'm posting from the perspective of someone who has no responsibilities and very little worries in the world, I would probably give this up to them, because the worst case scenario is that you will not get paid back, however i'd like to be assured that the person had really exhausted all other avenues (family, closer friends, etc). Money is easy come easy go in my book.

Why do people keep talking about this as if the thief is OP's friend? He's more like the sketchy friend of a friend (who clearly isn't much of a friend to put OP on the spot like this).

MC Chris and I had a long discussion wherein one of the premises was that a close friend asked us for the money. I was responding in that context. I've already stated that strictly speaking in terms of the OPs situation "friend of a friend" or "mutual friend" I'd def. say no. Misunderstanding is all

I wouldn't trust a kid who stole $6,000 to pay me back. Also, it's kind of a dick move on your friends part to put you in the spot by even asking.

One of my best friend's car broke down and needed a grand to get it fixed. He didn't even ask me to avoid putting me in a bad spot.

When I found out, I shipped him the g and honestly don't care if he pays it back.

Ya I obviously told him no, but said I'd think about it and that I felt bad (pretty much a lie). I just felt kind of douchey refusing to help a kid when I'm his only friend that can.

If he wanted a BJ and you were the only one around and didn't give him one would you tell him you feel bad about that too?

Do ever lend significant money to anyone, especially people who have proven they can't manage it in the past. All it does is cause hard feelings between you, friends, family etc.

Ah, you're thinking ahead to visiting hours when OP is seeing his friend in prison. Smart man!
