You're not getting a better hand to fold and at best you're getting a chopping hand to fold. You also risk getting c/r'ed here and he might just call down w/an ace anyway so I check behind

He's in for 3 on the flop. He called the turn. I wouldn't expect him to fold any Ace on the river. Unless he thinks very little of you it looks like a chop. Just hope he doesn't show you K-J (I'd expect K-Q to bet out). Anyway, I don't see the point of betting the river unless you know he can fold a weak Ace for one more after putting in so many bets.

I'm thinking most lurkers are 3-betting preflop with an ace that they want to play in this situation.

I shouldn't have said he lurked here. That implies that he plays a 2p2 style, which isnt really the case. Lets just say he is loose pf and needs more experience hand reading.

if that's the case i really doubt he's capable of folding an ace here let alone a crappy two pair like KT or JT.

I really think you're outthinking yourself here. This is a Poker 101 check. You may want to incorporate checking into your game, as it complements betting, raising, calling and folding nicely.
