[ QUOTE ]
Without looking, how many of the following coaches have a WINNING record coaching in the NFL?

Then post your answer. (no cheating)

(And in a side note, Buddy Ryan was exactly 55-55-1)

(in random order)

Pete Carroll
Tom Coughlin
Al Davis
Herman Edwards
Jerry Glanville
Lou Holtz
Steve Mariucci
Art Shell
Bart Starr
Dave Wannstedt

[/ QUOTE ]

Is "random order" supposed to be read as "alphabetical order"?

All of them?

Starr is one that I have serious doubts about. I'm pretty sure Carroll and Wanstat were winners but people perceive them as bad coaches so won't have them. I'm probably way off, but this is my impression.

Pete Carroll Y didn't he have three out of three winning years with the Pats?

Tom Coughlin Y and its not close (14-2 ftw)

Al Davis Y no idea but the Raiders were good back in the day so probably Y

Herman Edwards N probably close but 4-12 has to pull him down

Jerry Glanville N I don't remember him having any good teams. Did he ever win 10 games?

Lou Holtz Y don't remember him being in the NFL, too far back for me, flipped a coin and it came up Y

Steve Mariucci Y didn't he start out like 20-5 or something? has to be Y despite the Lions

Art Shell N probably close but that 2-14 wiped out a couple good years during his first run

Bart Starr N Bart Starr was a coach? Well he played in the 60s so he probably coached in the 70s and maybe early 80s (late 80s I'd know him) and I'm guessing he coached the Packers who sucked in the 70s and 80s so N

Dave Wannstedt N bad in Chicago, decent in Miami but he sucked the last year and wasn't there as long I think so N

These are really tough.

I know Carroll had a winning record in NE, but I don't remember how many seasons he coached in NYJ.

Glanville I think was a winner in Houston, but his losing in Atlanta probably more than offset that.

Wanndsteadt couldn't have won enough in Miami to offset Chicago.

Mariucci I think won enough in SF to offset Detroit.

Coughlin definitely.

Run & Shoot w/ Warren Moon baby. Him & Wyche of Cincinnati hated each other...it was a pretty fun rivalry to watch.
His Atlanta team also lost to the Redskins in the 2nd round the year they won it, but I think they sucked every other year.
