Crying is therapeutic and an indicator of emotional wellness, as long as it's not ridiculously frequent. The last time I cried was a few days ago when I saw a special on the news about a little kid getting a prosthetic leg.

it's not really particularly 'weird' to cry at random times, actually a decent number of people do it. it just means that something else is going on, it's not like dude's personality is such that he is horribly upset by random cheesy things. it means something else is bugging him. it's not that complicated people. dude, any idea what's bugging you? Last time I cried was at my Grandma's funeral, then before that it was after my friends funeral, then before that when my dog died. Other than that, I think I have probably cried 5 times since the age of 12. I also cried on 9/11.
