I can't believe this was posted by shaniac.

Is it necessary to say this? Shane doesn't often post hands. Even if it is an easy fold, do you think comments like this will make him post more or less hands in the future? It sounds like you have some sort of respect for him so I would imagine you could appreciate him posting more than he does. I would appreciate it too.

agreed

I kinda want to gamble and call here, trying to flop a set. I'm pretty sure it's -cEV, but you never have to risk your whole stack w/o flopping a set. But when you flop a set, you almost always stack pfr (often even when he whiffs), and sometimes both. It helps that you have good relative position postflop too. Having 9k @ the beginning of this tournament would set you up for a long time. Risking 500 in a somewhat -cEV spot may be worth it.

Whatever, I guess I've regressed in my online poker understanding to the point that the most simple decisions perplex me. Anyway, I thought it was a weird hand for the 2nd hand of a 1K tournament. I folded. Flop came T88 or something and the SB check-folded.

I'd check out their stats on OPR before folding anyway. Doing so would confuse me even more, as it happens.

As a matter of interest, what do we do with:

AA
KK
QQ
AK
?

+1 on Colsons thoughts, and +1 at nagging him to post more as well.

Also, i think the first response nailed why it's a fold.

totally normal fold under most conditions. The decision becomes way more interesting if you hold QQ.

I'd fold, I always fold in spots like these where someone makes an idiotic overbet because I just have no clue what they might have and I'm not willing to go broke applying logic to an illogical situation. Plus the call is extremely scary.
