Snickers bars come from Civets too?

Ha! I can see the hazing for the freshmen poo-sifters:

"Here's a Payday Bar to commemorate your first day. Enjoy the chocolatey goodness."

If it weren't for the health and safety concerns that suzzer cited, I'd still try it I think.

I'd have guessed a couple of minutes in boiling water would clear all this right up.

Also, I'd be surprised if the reaction to a cup of this coffee could be characterized by anything other than "That's a pretty [censored] good cup of coffee. I don't know if it's worth fifty dollars but it's pretty [censored] good."

Im not a huge coffee drinker by any stretch of the imagination, however when i was in Istanbul there was a vendor who had some Kopi Luwak. A friend and I decided to buy a small amount (a bag with enough for 6-8 cups, it was about $20 at the exchange rate at the time I would guess) just for the sake of trying it.
I actually didn't really enjoy it, the flavor was strong and deep with an aftertaste almost akin to that of when you eat very strong chocolate. I say this but me commenting on the quality of coffee is like a lager lout comparing fine wine vintages; I have no idea what I am talking about.

This tastes good, but it's not worth the price. Just try it once and go back to Blue Mountain or whatever.

Oh yeah, and you can't smell poo in the coffee beans at all. I wouldn't be at all concerned about hygiene/safety.

I tried it - I thought it was just average, not exceptional but certainly not bad. It comes with such hype and expectation that it might be impossible to really judge.

One problem is that there are a fair number of fake beans out there (I've heard anyway, from random web sites writing about this). And that makes sense to me - if you're trying it for the first time, how will you know? At the least I would expect a lot of places cut other beans into it.

I got my beans through Armeno Coffee Roasters. They were well-reviewed, seemed legit and sold the beans in fairly small quantities, so it was affordable to try.

I made the coffee in a French press and in a stovetop espresso maker. Both cups were not as strong as I had expected, but I drink mostly espresso so I'm not the best judge. The coffee was crisp, not bitter, and good, but in the end it just didn't scream "these beans came out of a cats ass."
