i think hoopster has a valid point though. last year i was 4 tabling putting in ~30k hands a month and i was running ~7ptbb over a large sample. this year ive been putting in way more hands, more tables, tried to force hands and at times this year my winrate has definitely suffered (1.5ptbb over my first 100k hands this year). i wouldnt be surprised if people made more money playing the way he did rather than trying to get in 100k hands a month (reef).

[/ QUOTE ]

I used to 10 table to 100k hands/month back in the Party days. I wasn't playing more hours than now, just more tables. My enjoyment level was probably about the same. I only gave it up because I couldn't hack it above 600NL playing that style after Party crashed.

[/ QUOTE ]

yea fwiw my 1.5ptbb wr was accompanied by the most drugs i have ever done in my life.

Try running for 30-60 minutes where you really push yourself. I can promise you that in the midst of that run you wont give a flying fk about your downswing/poker. And then when you come back to the tables you will be calm and clear in your mind (atleast this is my experience).

Another thing that will most likely work is setting goals or landmarks for yourself. Something that will give you an incentive to push yourself out of the rut. I would recommend something that you'll look forward to getting/doing. Use your imagination, and put thought into making it something that you know will work for ya. Know what I mean? Also, once you set a goal and meet it you will have boosted confidence and that is what you need to get back to full speed.

your gonna think im crazy i swear but ive been in the same type of rut you speak of lately and today I played great by talking to myself and just explaining my thought process on every hand (yes i literally talked aloud)

[/ QUOTE ]

I do this whenever I feel I'm not playing great. It sounds stupid and ppl you live with might think your weird but it does work.

Also breaks from poker, having a life outside and exercise etc all help.

downswings really help

they are basically a kick in the ass to shower, drink a bunch of bull, then play incredible poker.

I find that whenever I go out and have a fun night when I return to play poker I have like this urge to want to preserve my standard of living/protect what I've acoomplished (yeah I know not as much as some of you cocky ballin mofos), and I am much more likely to play really well and not take shots at games I don't belong in.

to be honest experience is more important than anything. You have to play a lot of hands to become a really good heads up player (esp emotionally) there is no way around it. I've probably played close to 1M hands of HU NL and it took a long time for me to get into a groove and mostly eradicate tilt sessions. Next on the list is game selecting and setting a stoploss/quitting when you feel like you aren't playing your best.
