I use hotmail too and I have noticed the junk mail getting through the filter has increased dramatically recently.

I've had my Hotmail account for 13 years. I finally gave up on it. It's not that big of a pain to switch over to something else.

When you register for sites, use dodgeit.com.

I've been using this account for around 8 years and have all my registration stuff for that time period tied to it. I know it's stupid, but I don't want to move it all, make subfolders, filters, etc all the things that make changing e-mail accounts that you've had for a long time tedious.

Simple solution:

Create a filter that forwards mail from specific addresses to your Gmail account. Every so often, check the hotmail account to verify if you somehow missed one of the addresses. If you did, add it to the filter.

Option part requiring some actual effort:

Eventually you'll have a list of all the addresses you need to change. Sit down for a couple hours one day and log in to those sites and switch them to your new email address. Voila.
