CE - haha actually, that was my initial thought with the Pimp My Tryke sketch - Sorkin's way of showing he's not too out of step with reality (it's just a LN show, this is the crap they air).

But with Science Schmience, I think that was his attempt to showcase "high quality sketch comedy TV" and it was just really bad

Maybe we aren't giving Sorkin enough credit. It's 2nd-level thinking: He's making fun of how bad SNL is.

I actually think this is the case. The "funny" stuff often gets cut (for one reason or another, like the small town people who make bread or something), while the jokes that stay in are the crappy "and the bear said RAARR!" ones.

Also, he includes a generic "fat guy" in the cast who we never really see, but his sketches are predictable stuff like getting way too excited at a golf game, screaming "GET IN THE HOLE" like a bad Chris Farley.

Sorkin knows what's going on -- his show isn't a comedy; it's a drama about mediocre comedians and very good producers.

I agree, but why make Paulson out to be the next Richard Pryor? That makes it harder to fire her IRL.

I thought ep3 was a big let down from the first 2.

That's a really apt description - but I feel like Sorkin is 0 for 2 with the sketches he wrote that we got to see (the G&S thing, and Science Schmience). Haha you know, this is the most critical I've ever been of a TV series... again I just had really high expectations.

Ratings: You know, I hadn't seen these numbers when I said above NBC wouldn't cancel this series... CSI Miami won the time period with Bachelor a solid second. Studio 60's numbers have fallen from a 5.0 to a 4.2 down to a 3.5 in week three. That's really not good, especially considering Heroes, Studio 60's lead-in, did a 5.3.

Ouch! CSI Miami is just brutal, by far the worst cop show on TV. and I'd guess Bachelor is pure tardovision. It seems like with this cast they've got to give it a year or two, right?

CSI Miami is hilariously bad because of Red's ridiculous overacting.

Were there really TWO musical montages in this episode?

I felt like I was watching FOX.

The show is smug, very smug. And mean-spirited. Its Sorkin's personal bully pulpit, but his point of view isn't particularly interesting or intelligent. Its just his weekly screed and NBC paid dearly for it.

Die-hard walk-and-talkers will no doubt stay tuned, but the rest of America is already changing the channel.

Losing - I hope they don't cancel it. It seems unlikley becase NBC doesn't have strong programming, and they probably (rightfully) have a lot of faith in Sorkin to deliver the goods. But from a pure economics standpoint, it's a premium license fee show, so like, they could be making more $ by airing something cheaper.

It's really bad ratings erosion from week-to-week, and a fairly significant drop-off from its lead-in. NBC must be pretty stressed out.

So maybe it's really secretly an extension of Heroes. Sorkin's power is that whatever he writes, the opposite happens in real life.

Dumb slot for it though. It's also gonna lose out to MNF on cable.

Anyways, I like Sorkin's writing, it's guut.
