Lots of non moogs lets you define an avatar however you choose. That is not the reason these games are addictive.

Re: Abusing amphetamines(etc.) and playing World of Warcraft
This trumps the OP.
[ QUOTE ] First it was the Exile series, then along came WoW. I learned by lvl 30 that this was going to eat me alive and I stopped playing, my girlfriend unfortnatley continued on to lvl 70 smiling the whole time as we spent months together in the same house and never saw each other. I lost the love of my life to a bunch of orcs and trolls. I first realized there might be a problem when I cornered her in the kitcen for a snuggle session and I was physically throttled for keeping her from returning to the computer. We're apart now. She still plays and now her ties to the game are even stronger because of her rank in her guild. Because now there are so many people "depending" on her and she doesn't want to let them down. And I still sit here, alone and lonely wishing for the girl I fell in love with to come back to me. Now I've started my own account hoping that maybe I'll cross paths with her in Azeroth somewhere and she'll be my friend again if only virtually. Sad I know but that's how much I miss her. Re: Abusing amphetamines(etc.) and playing World of Warcraft
The game allows you to compensate for other things in your life that you might not have.
Trust me. I've been playing games for 25 years. Started with D&D in 1982. Here is a secret in life I've learned. Maybe it could help you too. Life is about balance. Play the game, but spend time doing other things as well. Don't allow it to take up all your time. Spend time with your girl. Get the hell out of the house. Good luck to you, and if you can't tell your shrink the truth... Why even go see him? |

Re: Abusing amphetamines(etc.) and playing World of Warcraft
Switch to poker and use the money you make to feel better about yourself. Instead of spending 12 hours on a quest to find the best fitting armor, spend 12 hours grinding and use the money to buy a nice fitting suit for yourself.

Re: Abusing amphetamines(etc.) and playing World of Warcraft
I had a friend who got addicted to Warcrack. He literally didn't leave his house for months. He grew weed in another room of his rental and played WoW 16-24 hours a day. His cute fiance reported that he stopped showering, shaving, cutting his toenails, etc. He also demanded that she make him food so he wouldn't have to leave the computer. They didn't have sex for months; he was just not interested.
Finally, she unplugged the computer while he was playing so they could talk about this problem. After he calmed down, she said, "it's either me or your game." He insta-chose the game and she moved out that day. |

Re: Abusing amphetamines(etc.) and playing World of Warcraft
I don't really get the point of spending 12 hours a day on improving an in game character because your life sucks, when you could just spend that 12 hours on making your life not suck.
