Re: most famous 5 seconds of music ever?
Perhaps I worded my response poorly. The average IQ is, by defition, 100; so yes, we clearly have a lot of not very bright people walking around. But the point remains that the bit is only funny because the majority of people watching it know the correct answers.
Imagine the same bit but with Jay asking the Man on the Street a bunch of esoteric trivia from the $1000 round of Jeopardy. Do you think the bit would be funny? |

[/ QUOTE ] I get what you're saying...but they dont seem to have to travel far to find several people who have zero clue on anything that doesn't fit the pop culture genre. I chuckle at the stupidity, but it is also a bit depressing. |

Perhaps something like Fur Elise as well. [/ QUOTE ] That's what came to my mind. It really feels like something almost everyone should recognize, but I'm not too sure about that to be honest. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Obviously you don't know America Here's a crash course: http://youtube.com/watch?v=GeMhxvYq1Ww [/ QUOTE ] *shudders* [/ QUOTE ] For some reason I have a really tough time watching such videos like that one and what Jay Leno does, etc. It doesn't even strike me as 'funny' per-se. It just REALLY disturbs me for some reason. I guess I just like to live in my own fantasy-world where people aren't REALLY this stupid. This one might even bother me a little bit more because I get the impression it was going back to a British audience which just leaves me really embarassed. [/ QUOTE ] People aren't really this dumb. They ask hunderds of people these questions, and edit the dumbest answers together. The people in these videos aren't a random cross section of the population. |

Do people sing "Happy Birthday" in non-English speaking countries? [/ QUOTE ] You can chalk up Italy. Same tune, direct translation. Tanti auguri a te, tanti auguri a te, etc etc. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] But what song in Europe can North Americans identify? I think 90% in NA can identify the anthem, and even 50% in Europe would be enough to put it as #1. [/ QUOTE ] For some reason the above is hilarious. 90% strikes me as comically low. [/ QUOTE ] How is that low? 32% of Americans can't even identify Dick Cheney as vice-president. [/ QUOTE ] Dick Cheney isn't pictured at the beginning of every sporting event. |
