$6.50 Stars: AK facing all in from big stack bully
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (4 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)
SB (t7305) Hero (t1925) UTG (t1320) Button (t2950) Preflop: Hero is BB with A, K. 2 folds</font>, SB raises to t1200</font>, Hero raises to t1900</font>, SB calls t700. Final Pot: t3850 6.50 on stars. Big stack is your typcial bully pushing on poor lil ol me with ATC. I felt a call was correct here so id be able to atleast play for first when the other two were knocked out. Am I correct in thinking that? I folded AQ the last go around and was kind of regretting it. Any thoughts? |

Folding here is a big mistake. You are right to slide there. I'm not positive about the situation with AQ, but you're probably well off to slide that too. Four-handed, AQ is a monster and you're probably 70/30 to be sitting with 4000 chips after this hand and you will find opportunities to be a bully on the other 2 guys due to your position on the two shorter stacks for even more chips. Call all day long. As for the AK, no brainer IMO.

Re: $6.50 Stars: AK facing all in from big stack bully
If not this hand then which? Are we really only playing big pairs at this point in the game? Although UTG is short, he still has enough to last several trips through the blinds. We can't exactly just wait for somebody to go out. And if we do manage to wait it out, we are almost certainly going to take third. I understand that it is usually better to win your pots uncontested but if there is a very aggressive big stack directly to your right you seldom get chances to steal except UTG (on his BB). We have the best unpaired hand, I think this is the time to take a stand and give ourselves a chance to win the tourney.

I agree. ICM is for donktards. AK is a premium hand, you simply gotta call. Even if it makes you lose money.

Re: $6.50 Stars: AK facing all in from big stack bully
I didn't say ICM is for donktards, it is a valuable tool but it is just a mathematical model that does not (and cannot) take into account all factors in a STT at bubble time. Also, ATC is probably a wider range than he is actually pushing here. I don't have access to SnGPT at this location, anyone care to run it with a more realistic range? (something like 22+, Ax, K8+ Kxs, AT broadway)
