Default I have 3 cards

Playing in a usual friendly 20/40 game at the Borgata last Saturday night.

There's a bunch of folds and the Cutoff raises, button folds, sb folds, and I toss in four chips from the big blind to call.

I place a white chip on my two cards and the flop is dealt.

I check call the flop.

I bet the turn he calls.
I bet the river he calls.

I reach around my chips to grab my cards and somehow feel that there are now three cards in front of my chips all face down.

I say "wait! I'm not doing anything but I have three cards."

The dealer doesn't know what to do.

I say "I know what I'm supposed to have. I'm supposed to have K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]"

She calls the floor who looks a little dumbfounded.

Someone attests that I had scooped up all three only at showdown and that prior to the river the random card had been seperate from my two cards.

What is the ruling?

You have a dead hand. Either you were dealt three cards or you didn't protect your hand from having a card mucked into it.

i dont get what happened. if you were absentminded enough to either
a) have 3 cards the whole time and not say anything or
b) grab an extra card from the muck

i dont think you deserve any portion of the pot.

if something else, then maybe

I wish I could draw a diagram.

I had my two cards with a chip ontop of them in front of my chips.

There was a random other card to the left of my chipstack.

When I went to turn over my hand I grabbed the first card (assuming it was mine) and also grabbed my cards (looking for the second card).

You need to be more careful what you grab. If there is just a random card laying there the dealer or floor can just take it and muck it. Once you grab it it is in with your cards.

BTW, I need to play 20/40 if calling a preflop raise with K7s is standard.

I'm afraid you're SOL. Once you have three cards, no matter how it happened, your hand is dead.
