In the heat of battle I would probably incorrectly bet this.

I think we need to check here. If we feel we are behind to villian the 8 did not improve our hand. I take the free river card.

I would bet.

It's hard to put the BB on any hand as he was on the big blind but he might have an ace or something else that completely missed the flop.

Without knowing what the player is like, I would bet, firstly he might fold, secondly we do have a flush draw, even though it is a fairly week one. Finally we have a pair which might be enough if he has an ace or jack.

I think he has either missed the flop or is drawing. If he had hit the flop then I think we would bet.

He maybe going for a checkraise but it hards to come to any conclusions with no player background.

bet the flush draw

i bet again and can think of 4 reasons right now (this may be the same reason expressed in different ways):

1) villain may not have anything and will fold to our bet right away (we might be bluffing but he doesn't have anything/we are firing a 2nd barrel which is pretty common in these situations whether we have a hand or not, so we might have a hand)

2) we are value betting the best hand already

3) with position this bet may buy us a free showdown if we don't improve to a more lock hand on the river.

4) if we are behind now, which is certainly possible, we have a lot of outs to a more lock hand (i figure it at 13-ish outs, some are a bit dirty, so maybe 10-11 to be safe? ((to two pair, trips, or the flush))

Why not take the free card? The BB called a preflop raise, and called a flop bet with a pretty scary looking board. I think there's a good chance you're behind here even if he reads you as a maniac. Taking the free card pretty much gives your hand away, but I think a good case can be made for it.

*grunch*

I would take this free card. The pot is very small and it is unlikely that villian will fold since he called both the preflop raise and the flop bet.

How can this be? I tried to fiture out if this would be a value bet or not and could not see that it would be.

What if villain raises?

Well it is tough and that is prob why people aren't commenting. There are good reasons to both check and bet but for me it comes down to how much SD value a pair of 8's has. All other things being equal, less SD value = bigger betting %.

Default BUSHU ENTERS THE FRAY

from an AIM convo with bbbushu:

BUSHU(11:48:19 PM): i check it
BBB(11:48:29 PM): ok post your reasons why pls
BUSHU(11:49:26 PM): awww, but im lazy
BUSHU(11:49:37 PM): i think betting is fine but eskimo thinks we look like maniacs
BUSHU(11:49:45 PM): which means villain will delay the check/raise to the turn a lot
BUSHU(11:49:51 PM): if we had [censored], that'd be fine - easy bet/fold
BUSHU(11:49:57 PM): with a hand, i dont wanna charge ourselves extra
BBB(11:51:57 PM): are you callin a blank river tho?
BUSHU(11:52:23 PM): no
BBB(11:52:36 PM): he bets riv we dont improve you fold?
BUSHU(11:52:42 PM): yeah
BBB(11:54:12 PM): so by 'hand' you mean 'draw that wants to see the river' and not 'showdownable already'
BUSHU(11:54:24 PM): yeah
BUSHU(11:54:54 PM): a good chance to win, as of the turn
