4. Thou shalt prove your intelligence by denying God. I discovered that in a forum populated with the brightest young minds in America, an alarming number of you actually think the knowledge of God is something to be laughed at and ignored, even going so far as to think that God himself is a fairy tale.

Jeez guys....there is no such thing as the Flying Spaghetti Monster. The epic tome Return of the Meatball is fiction. Ok? Now get over it.

Look how smart I am that I figured that out. So smart it's alarming, IMO.

hypothetically, Passaman, if only 10% of the people in this country were religious, do you think we would consider being religious a mental illness?

[/ QUOTE ]

The numbers you're back-handedly referring to are actually more like 1%-3%

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know what you mean. So if 1%-3% of the people were religious it would be a mental illness? I wasn't referring to any numbers.

Define mental illness.

[/ QUOTE ]

Any of various conditions characterized by impairment of an individual's normal cognitive, emotional, or behavioral functioning.

I think this includes having imaginary friends who live in the sky and talking to yourself whilst kneeling at your bedside.

also you're not answering my question Passaman.

Mostly because it's a silly question. Since human kind have always had spiritual and religious beliefs, no one would possibly see it as a mental illness. The overwhelming majority of humans believe in some sort of God (at least over 90%). Therefore, it's a hypothetical, trolling question that doesn't make a lot of sense. I suppose if only 3% of people believed in God, we would see them as rather strange. Since the exact reverse is what's actually true, maybe we should look at it from that angle. The bible says that "God has placed eternity in the hearts of man", meaning that all of us are hardwired to seek and to search, and to look for what's on the "other side." So, the ones that don't do that, maybe they're the 'abnormal' ones? I don't know.
