The books, while light reading, are quite entertaining.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I've read books 1-5 on the commute to work every day, and they are the perfect light read.

I'm also looking forward to the movie, and will likely see it one of these weekends.

Yates did a surprisingly good job with this. The movie comes in at a little over 2 hours. They did cut a lot of stuff, such as cutting Quidditch out completely.

In fact, if you were to go through the book you might find that more stuff is cut out of here than in any of the books, but they still managed to nail it. Mostly because they absolutely got two characters right: Umbridge and Luna.

"a) the books are really really good; very deep and u can find links to tons of historical and classical events (look up the general/emperor Severus; or SIRIUS' role in Egyptian mythology)...and the use of foreshadowing and red herrings and such are very good; it's obvious she planned out the entire series before writing book 1"

And even if she didn't, that makes it even more impressive.
