Default WTF is up with the table breaking at Niagra Falls event?

Ok so i'm in niagra falls and on Tuesday night everyone and their mother goes out to get hammered. D. Negreanu is throwing a party at SI Lounge, David Williams, Mike Mizrachi and JC Tran set up shop at the Dragonfly club. And a few other shindings go on out and about town. I cruise down Dragonfly to hang with Mike and JC and realize everyone and their mother is out getting hammered. Good for me I had bought in but not officially selected which day i wanted (day 1 or day 2). At this point realizing that every pro in Canada was probably enibriated, I decided for sure I would play day 1. So i decide to have about 1.5 drinks and head home early after having some food with Nam Le, the Grinder and a pretty hammered Kevin O'donnell.

I wake up the next morning and go down to play and sure enough there are like 2.5 pros in the field of 255 or so. (not really 2.5, but there weren't many). I'm in heaven and so is almost everyone else who played day 1 cuz the field was so soft. Obv. most pros were hungover or tired from going out and chose to play day 2. Anyway, I'm at the table with a buddy, and notice the table next to ours was the worst draw, having John Juanda, JC Tran and David Levi all together. Well we're smack dab in the middle of the rows, right next to the rail. And next thing i know they break that table? I'm like holy fkn [censored]....wtf is going on (cuz this table isn't at the end or in the corner, and for those of you who know about big events they ALWAYS go from one corner, or end row down towards the opposite corner....blah blah..) Well regardless there was no way this table was supposed to be the first or second table broken. So i ask the floorman why he was breaking that table? His response: They felt there were too many pros at that one table, and it was the last table to to be assigned with latecoming players which is why it was pro heavy, and they felt this wasn't fair to them. WTF!

Isn't that the luck of the draw? If none of the last players to choose their day had been pros would have been any reason they would break that table? obv. not. It was just random that 3 pros stumbled in at the end.

I spoke with JC and he told me that he stumbled in hungover at last minute to play, and barely got in for day 1. So the fact that it was last table was true. But what doesn't make sense to me completely, is floormen usually could care less about this stuff, unless it was an assigned alternate table (which this was not), and even then often they don't care about it and the table ends up not broken til much later (i specifically remember a table at wsop where I signed up late with like 7 of my buddies, Chris Mccormack, Nick Schulman, and a few others, and we all got to sit around and bust each other cuz the table didn't break til god knows when). So I'm thinking someone probably asked the floorman to break the table and gave them the excuse about it being the last table filled. Well, FWIW, I'm close with JC and know 100% he would never ask something like this.

Anyway, I think some [censored] was foul here. Someone didn't like the fact that he had to compete with two other pros when every other table in the field had about 0.5 of them per table and probably asked the floormen to break that table giving up some lame excuse, who knows. All i know is something wasn't right. That table shouldn't have been broken for that reason. 3 pros at ur table, oh well ur fked, but that's the luck of the draw. Anyway that's my rant. Wondering what everyone else thinks.

Oh yea, and if anyone happens to know, did they do anything like this on day 2 of the event? Did they break the last table filled first on that day as well?

Peace,

-ed moncada

I was at the same table as Juanda, Sebok, and that Filippi guy.

A table change would have been nice.

So if me and a few of my buddies all showed up at the last-minute for this thing then they just would have thrown us all on the same table?

I wonder if that table should have been arranged in that way in the first place.
But it definitely shouldn't be the reason for breaking a table.

Ebo,

There was a lot of comraderie between the floor supervisors/dealers and the local players and quite a bit of "loyalty" (aka softplaying) on open display among the local players themselves. Kind of stupifying that the floor was willing to improvise on some rules and procedures and yet maintained strict adherence to other ridiculous ones. I agree it's total BS.

Still, even with all the help from the floor and softplaying that seems to have been taking place, I doubt highly any of those local players have a good shot at winning and it was a pretty good tournament nonetheless, as corrupt as it was.
