If the Cardinals blow the division, is this big enough to finally cost La Russa his job?

[/ QUOTE ]

If that's what it takes, let's go get 'em next year.

only having 1.5 pitchers

this is jocketty's fault.

edit: this may be a bit harsh, but who else is he going to blame for it?

Ugh, just saw the SC highlights. I feel sick and angry. Sports shouldn't be this affecting.

mulder's injury was quite a setback, and the market for pitchers is supposed to be pretty dry. that's still a situation where you make your own luck though.

i also believe that wainwright should have at least been given a shot at some point in a serious role, either starting or closing.

As an Astros fan, I'm pretty upset right about now. There are so many games that they blew earlier in the season that should have been LOCKS. Just look at the low win totals of the starters.

And that game a fortnight ago where Pujols hit the bloop game winning hit off Lidge with 2 outs ....YUCK. If they hang on to just THAT GAME ALONE, the Astros are 79-77 and Cards would be 79-76 right now...

It would still take a miracle for the Astros to surpass the Cards though. I'm not going to hold my breath.

I will say that I HOPE they pass the Cards, b/c I think the Astros will/would put up a better showing in October than the struggling Cards. If the Cards get in, it is only after coasting in on fumes.

Should be an exciting week!

And to think, I planned my cruise for Oct. 1-8 a few months back assuming the Astros wouldn't see October baseball
