What to look for in new desktop?

I'm helping a friend pick out a new computer for poker only. His budget is $700. He plays up to 8 tables with PAHUD and PT. Other apps that would run simultaneously are Camtasia, Skype, AIM, and a browser, but I think that's about it. He wants a dual monitor capability, too (although only one for now).

So, since neither of us know too much about what to look for, first off, what are the key specs to look at when shopping around?

that is a pretty open question, but Core 2 Duo and a GB of RAM, it is easy and cheap to add a second GB yourself. Post some systems you are looking at.

Thanks...here are a few (he wants to pick one up ASAP, so I included a BB, Fry's and CompUSA, as well as Newegg). If I would see him soon, I would install the 2nd GB of RAM for him, but I don't know when I'll see him, and he said he wants to do as little as possible....although I guess he'll have to at least put in a graphics card.

On a budget, the best thing you can do is build it yourself.

CPU and RAM are the two most important aspects for what he'll use it for.

The more cores in the CPU the better and the more RAM, the better.

It's a pure waste of money, but if that's what he wants, gl!

Building your own rig is not hard at all....
