LAG on the Left situation early in $2K HPT ME
This may fall into the "simple/standard" category relative to the forum. I am working on my play in these types of situations (LAG on the left), so, appreciate input.
Early rounds of recent Majestic Star $2000+200 HPT ME. Villian is well known local tricky trappy LAG "Ali" on my immediate left. Ali is self proclaimed king of weekly 85+15 rebuys, and some WSOP event cashes. Hangs with strong locals Tim McCarthy and Boulos Estafanous (decent CP database resumes). For first 2+ hours, Ali has been catching big time. KK twice, AA, QQ, AK, trips etc. Perfect set up for moves he is making more liberally than usual. Images of everyone at table as perceived by Ali is probably weak tight. Stacks: Hero 20K, Villian 30K. Blinds 300/600 no ante. Full table of 10. Hero in EP1: AQo raises 2K Villian in EP2 Calls Rest of table folds Flop: Q 9 x rainbow Hero: Bets 3K Villian: Re-raises to 6K I verbally joust with Ali trying to get info. I tell him I have a big hand. Ali says "muck 'em". I ask if he is pulling a Jamie Gold. He laughs & says "trust me". He seems relaxed, but obv capable of reverse tells. Hero: Jam or fold? |

Re: LAG on the Left situation early in $2K HPT ME
add'l info: post flop re-raise sizing by villian - typically in the 3X-4X original bet range, so mini-reraise in this case was a little abnormal...

lol - me pulling a Jamie?...mebbe I used the wrong method, but, my thoughts in the heat of the moment were: Ali usually doesn't talk alot except an occasional brief ritual beating of bad play by others, or a $%#@&^% when my A10 sucked his KK in a SB vs BB & he tossed his cards the entire length of the table...so, anyway, when I got him to talk in this situation, more than he usually does, he seemed very relaxed/confident

[/ QUOTE ] Raise size is, or should be, a function of stack size to pot ratio. It's the only raise he can make which doesn't clearly commit both of you to the pot. It is unprecidented because up to this point flop action will generally not have been pot-committing. At these blinds it is. Whether this means that he wants to get away to a three-bet or just wants you to think he does, I don't know. |

I don't care what you do as long as you don't fold (oh, and don't tell him your hand, but it's too late for that one.) sorry you lost though.

I really hate your table talk with chips behind to be bet.
<ul type="square">[*]"I have a big hand"...[tank] "I'm all in"[*](well I guess I should instafold my KQ/QJ)[/list] |

Re: LAG on the Left situation early in $2K HPT ME
Cornell, thx...re: "I have a big hand"...this is the first time in a MTT I have said anything about hand strength. Not going to repeat this type of verbal info. So, advice well taken.
In that situation with that villian, I was sensing that he was calling or shoving no matter what. He pretty much will take the worst of it early to try to double. His melt downs are legendary. |
