[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] From my experience it is so not worth getting anything under $100 [/ QUOTE ] I'd say $300 from my experience. The pot that Tony P mentions isn't that great, and you can't make lattes with it. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] [/ QUOTE ] Real men don't drink "lattes" [/ QUOTE ] I'll show you a real man. I drink lattes. I also drink espresso. These two things are not mutually exclusive. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

Go style, go quality, go La Pavoni No idea where to get them in US, but you could get them for about $1k in Norway. Edit: Didn't see the part about not using a lot of money. [/ QUOTE ] oooohhhh he is so right! la Pavoni kicks some major ass. I think they are the manufacturers of the Starbucks branded espresso machine, same parts used. Another option that I explored is Francis Francis. I think it has really stunning design, but it made pretty [censored] espresso. TT [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] |

Re: Cappuccino/Espresso Machines
I wrestled with this for a while about 8 months ago. I don't know about your financial situation, but at the time I was running good and decided to go all out and buy a capresso C1300. This is a super automatic espresso machine. I do nothign except fill beans and water. Every few days I empty out all the used coffee. Every few weeks I replace the filter, every few months I drop a tablet in that cleans the machine. When I say I do this, I do that, I mean, I push one button and the machine does the rest by itself. This thing is the nuts. I drink alot of coffee though, I don't know how crazy you are about it. I also don't make that many cappucino's and lattes, most of the time I just drink espresso or have an americano. A few times a week I do make lattes for others, and it is extremely easy. The whole process is extremely easy. If you don't want to get a capresso, I still recommend getting a super automatic, much easier then manual machines. I'd also check out www.wholelattelove.com they have a lot of useful info. PM me if you have any other questions.

Re: Cappuccino/Espresso Machines
ASK,
Thanks for the link. An Italian restaurant I hang at (in their bar) has a commercial maker that grinds the beans, etc all in one push of the button. I had been meaning to search for a home unit. You saved me the time. Btw, on topic - regarding the steaming of the milk - it is usually more a matter of getting the hang of doing it right than the machine itself. RJT |

I'd like to start making cappuccino at home. Does anyone have recommendations for a good one at a reasonable price? I have no experience making cappuccino. I'm looking for a balance between ease of use and quality of the cappuccino. Right now I'm looking at the Hamilton Beach 40729. Also, the Braun Tassimo. [/ QUOTE ] I'd recommend going to Sur La Table (or some other high end gourmet store) and get a hands on demo and actually taste the coffee. The non-automatic machines can be super messy and having to grind with a different machine is a PITA. Different machines will vary in terms of warm up times and cost of pods and so forth. IMO, I wouldn't pay less than $500 - $1000 for a machine. I own a Capresso C1500 - you might want to check out their entry level model ($300) here. |
