Sony Play Station 2 and Component Video problems

So I buy the Monster component video cables to hook up my PSP2 to the television. There is no sound and the picture is widely distorted. I checked for snugness, made sure the three plugs were in the correct slots, and even began switching them around to see if there is some sort of mistake there. But nada.

My DVD was hooked up with component cables and everything worked fine. The Play station doesn't. What should I try or do?

How did you have your Playstation 2 hooked up before ?

Before I used the composite cables supplied with the SPS and it worked fine. There is no sound coming from the component cable hookup. Today I bought an S Video hookup and everything is working fine. But I want component!!!
