i hooked up a new monitor and my dual monitors stopped working

i just bought a new monitor. all i did was unplug one and plug in the new one and the dual monitors function wouldn't work. i tried the old monitor again and nothing. when i click on display monitor/settings, it only shows one monitor hooked up. it no longer gives me an option to extend my desktop across 2nd monitor. any suggestions?

i have tried rebooting several times and even reinstalling the disc that came with my graphics card.

try booting it once with one monitor plugged in, then shutting down and plugging the other and booting.

windows monitor settings are majorly fuxored
