Default 2/4 online 77 1stN

Hi - I play a little online but mostly live - as you have seen in my recent posts (BTW my trip 9's got beat by KK on the river so I guess it is pretty common occurrence after all).

One of my general rules to is raise first in 100% of the time. If I limp player can discern my holding easier, especially live.

I got 7-7 after 3 players have folded and I raised. I got 3 callers which is one too many. Of course, I missed the flop.

I am thinking that I should just fold small pocket pairs first in - these are less than 9's.

Also, sometime live if you limp everyone folds to the BB who checks - then the house drops $4. A raise is more important live.

Thoughts?

My experience has been just the opposite.. limping breeds limping, not folding. Raising breeds folding. Sometimes early in a session I'll raise a hand like 77, J9s, etc. from EP to guage the table's tightness. But I think you want to limp 77, encourage a multiway pot, and then hope to flop your set.

Raising 77 after three folds is perfectly fine.

Thanks guys, okay limping with 77 is fine and sometimes raising. Live I have seen it become HU between EP and the BB. I guess that is a chance that you have to take - it is gambling.

Well, a few hands later I had 7-7 in the same spot and this time I mucked it. I would have flopped a set of course. I do not know the outcome of the hands but there was a straight possible on the river.

77 is not a small pair. This is perfectly fine.

BTW, it's really hard for the flop to "hit" a pp.

8s are the middle card. Anything less I consider small.

i think if its 2 or 3 way to the flop and its like K65 or Q62, you hit it pretty hard.

Three handed that's RIO not most but a big portion of the time, eh? I'm not saying there aren't good flops; I'm saying that there are very few flops that don't leave us extremely vulnerable.
