Any news on the open sourcing the hand history importing? How about publishing a xml-format that people can write importers for, for their favorite sites.

(next step: Legopoker begins accepting your xml-format as input, and all of a sudden you have a hand history formatter that works for every site)

This latest update has fixed a lot of the importing errors, but there are still a few. Would you want us to send you HHs that can't import in HM (but are fine in PT)?

Definately - getting the importers to 100% is an ongoing process and any help is appreciated.

This is extremely likely but not until after the launch. Originally I was going 100% in this direction but became worried that people could create importer plugin dll's that had maliscious code in them but some type of open source project for hand history converting into HMSF (the xml format HM uses) is likely.

im not very impressed by the XML format in the holdem manager db.

its just like a simple text file that uses a few XML things but all its overhead:
just compare

Hero checks

if you want to use XML, start by defining some XML DTD or better XML Schema:
http://www.w3schools.com/schema/schema_howto.asp

then you can automatically validate if a XML file conforms to the default schema and easily use XSLT transformations to automatically create forum bb code, "original"-site-handhistories etc.

how bout some XML experts start working on creating a common hand history format? [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Or create a grammar for a common standard hand history format that is human readable (i.e. stick to "Hero checks" when possible), just like most sites have it. but as a standard all programs will understand.

I'm definately open to suggestions so let's get this xml format done once and done right. It needs quick action though - there have been many attempts to do this and all have failed to my knowledge anyways. So, if 1 or 2 people want to own this and spend a day or two on it then let me know.

If we're going to do this it should be done in a separate thread as a community project, where everyone can have input, so that PokerTracker and others can use it as a neutral standard and add-on developers don't have to deal with multiple formats.

I know vendors like to avoid this and lock in their own standards but it's bad for the end user IMO.

I like the XML format. I like that it's very simple and consistent and that there isn't any crap in there.
