Dude Marty couldnt even call a play, on O or D. So yeah, maybe a better rah rah coach, but without someone to call the plays, they would be fired up to play, but they would get delay of game penalties all game long since nobody would know what to run, that's your solution, return the opening kickoff to the 25 and then delay of game, 1st and 15 on the 20, then -5 to the 15, then 10 then 5, then half the distance to the 2.5. then 1.25 then the math gets tough and they still have no play????

If they hit the median of your range, they'd fall from 7th in points allowed to 31st(using 2006 rankings).

Wasn't Norv the coach that was busy coaching the redskins to mediocrity at the same time they were picked by most analysts to go to the superbowl? Weren't they the most underachieving team? I might be off on my years here but I don't think so.

The cupboard was pretty bare after Gibbs retired in '92 and they were legitimately one of the worst teams in the league. Yeah they were overrated later in the decade much like the Dolphins & Raiders were every year; not sure how much of that was just the media being stupid though.

No. They went 4-12 the year before he took over.

funny, those teams all got better when he got there and worse when he left. I'm sure it's the small 345 game sample size though.

No...its the small 3 team sample size. Look at the Raiders, they got worse after Norv left! And Skins I guess were 4-12 prior to Norv taking over, so they got better. Funny.

Thanks, but with the youngest and the most talented team in the league locked up for years to come, no luck needed, just keep kicking ass. Nice to see on the ticker that AJ got LB Phillips inked for 6 years, he and Merriman on the edges should do well under Ron Rivera. Hopefully no more choke jobs in playoffs.

Like I said, I may have slightly overshot the range, but they did allow 27 ppg the year before Phillips got there and 19 ppg since. Of course that is a bad stat because it was pre most of their good players on defense.

My point is you can't under estimate a good coordinator in a blitz centric defense. It makes a big deal in forcing turnovers, third down and red zone conversions. In other words the three parts of a defense that are directly responsible for points scored.

Does San Diego think really Turner is the best long term option? Or are they just looking at him as a stop-gap until they can hire Cowher in 2008? Maybe they just saw him as the guy least likely to screw things up next year.
