Yeah I was puzzled by that aswell... But then again Borodog had already mentioned something about buried coal staying hot. I guess coal combustion may consume less oxygen per unit of heat produced in it's burning than wood or other similar materials.

When you burn things like wood you get what are commonly referred to as hot "coals".

it is water, because water and fire are opposites - and water cancels out fire. similarly, earth and air "cancel out", and these four elements are the fundamental building blocks of matter.
