Not yet. But if he is a key part of a WS champion, especially in New York, and he gets to 500 or maybe 550 HRs, he's got a shot.

Delgado = Alonzo Mourning? Very good players, got (may get) titles late in their careers, never the best in the league, but very good for a long time.

I am taking Bill Simmons approach. No, he isn't a HoF'er.

Bill might put Delgado on the first level of his hypothetical pyramid HoF.

By the way his pyramid idea is so genius.

I agree that he's pretty borderline and probably won't get in.

Mourning (32nd in career Player Efficiency Rating)
Hall of Fame Probability: .532 (90)

Delgado (23rd in career OPS)
HOF Monitor: Batting - 100.5 (141) (Likely HOFer > 100)

Both about 50/50 right now. A late-career title for both would add weight to their cases.

isn't it going to be hard for mourning to make that late career run because of his surgery? he doesn't play that many minutes a game anymore

If Mourning gets into the HOF, it'll be a pity entry due to the surgery. If he never had any health problems, he'd probably be close to a shoe-in. He just hasn't played enough minutes.

Bulldog,
Mourning was a much better defender.
Delgado OPS appears much better due to the era which he played in.
I don't know how PER is affected by era.

The thing about Delgado is that he could still possibly play another 4 or 5 years. Especially with a bat like his he could go back to the AL and do what Thomas is doing and pad stats in the DH position. That is if he can keep hitting the ball the same way. Like it was said earlier, he's 34, not 43.

Mourning might have been one of the top 3 players at his position at one point (that's a guess, so I could be wrong if my memory sucks). Delgado was just one of many DH/1b putting up sick numbers.

I'm not sure 'Zo is a HOFer, but he's in the conversation, and imo Delagado shouldn't be.

Do you guys feel that "intangibles" are part of a player being the hall of fame? Because I feel Delgado has plenty of them. I'm saying this to the people that feel its 50/50, would that be enough to push him to one side?
