Players are allowed to be offsides if the ball is not played to them and they do not effect the play.

ORLY?? So like when one of the guys is within a foot of the keeper thus preventing him from diving for the save, even though the offensive player doesn't touch the ball or the keeper is not offsides? ok. thanks for clearing that up for this american noob. Did you even watch the goal?

[/ QUOTE ]

In general, he is right, if you don't affect play, you aren't offside. However, if the guy is in the goalkeeper's way, he is affecting play. (I didn't see the goal, the youtube video was down.)

ManU up to their old tricks again. Down 1-0 to Coventry....AT HOME.

[/ QUOTE ]

2-0 now! (Looks like Man U is mainly playing reserves, though.)

[/ QUOTE ]good luck winning the treble when your reserves lose to Conventry.

Last year you fools won the league and nothing else, mostly because you were lucky with injuries to your main starting team.

[/ QUOTE ]they actually changed the rules recently(I believe) so that even if a player is offsides, its not called if the ball isn't played to him or if he didn't affect the play. I actually agree with the rule. I have no idea the circumstances of the reading/livershite game though.

It's true. Last years league victory never quite made up for the CRUSHING defeat in the league cup.

Quality of reserves has nothing to do with winning the title. First 21 yes but beyond that it doesn't matter. If you're down to those players your screwed anyway.

Perfect response. Saying that we won the league last year because we were lucky is amazing. How far behind us was the 3rd place team?

"mostly because you were lucky with injuries"

I would say its MOSTLY because we are the best team in the premiership.

[/ QUOTE ]while this topic is better suited for the Prem season thread, I would pose a question to you.

The top 4 are all pretty equal once the season starts, right? What happens throughout the season determines who wins the league, and injuries have a massive impact on a teams season long success. This in turn makes depth very important.

So you really can't argue against ManU having the best team overall, all season long, last year. However, I think you can probably argue that they had the best overall team all season long because they were lucky with injuries. Thats my point. Secondly, you can also say they fact that they were in one less cup competition for the whole season being a major reason for staying healthy.
