Best movie scene/song combos
What are some specific scenes from movies that are set to music and really kick ass? It can even be from a terrible movie, but sometimes a song combines with a scene (often some sort of montage) and the result is really awesome.
Right now I'm reminded of a sweet one from my early childhood. The karate tournament montage in The Karate Kid set to "You're the Best." I don't even know if that's the name of the song. I just remember how cool that scene was when I was 5 and how cool it still is now that I'm a 5-year-old in a 24-year-old's body. A more sophisticated answer might be the opera scene from Hannibal. That's beautiful music. They play it again later in the movie when Lecter is back in the U.S. getting all the supplies ready for eating the dude's brain. What are some other examples of this? |

Re: Best movie scene/song combos
How about the Opera scene in The Untouchables? or the "higher and higher" training song in Wet Hot American Summer? or the in-movie Godfather hymn or whatever when Deniro kills Don Fenucci? pretty much every scene from The Good the Bad and the Ugly...

I've always liked the Michael Madsen scene in Reservoir Dogs set to Stuck in the Middle With You.

The scene in Goodfellas with the instrumental from "Layla" comes to mind.

I've always liked Hallelujah in Shrek. Might be just because I like the song so much, but I think it really hits the right tone there.

Re: Best movie scene/song combos
The opening scene to Bottle Rocket. Actually every song in that film fits perfectly. Actually just about every song Wes Anderson puts in his films fits perfectly so.....
"You're The Best Around" in the Karate Kid I agree with completely. I want to view it with a sense of irony now that I'm older, but I just can't. It really gets my adrenaline going. Tarantino is almost as good as Anderson when it comes to soundtracks. |

The montage scene in The Graduate which shows Dustin Hoffman hooking up with Anne Bancroft over the course of the year, while Simon & Garfunkel's "April Come She Will" plays.
