I'd say I'm happier now with the money I have from poker. Not because of the toys I can buy, but because right now I don't have to worry about next months rent. Also, it's allowed be to become independent from my parents, which is a big deal to me.

There are sometimes sacrifices along the way. OP questions whether it is worth it and it is a relevant question to ask. One that we poker players often do not include in the equation.

I look around at other people around me who are in the 19-20 age group, and I think their quality of life is significantly lower because they lack money. This goes for things like not being able to spend $5 or $10 to go out with friends because they are broke.

Alternatively, a lot of poker players feel like they are being wasteful when they arent playing poker, because their time is worth $150/hour or something.

The point is, IT'S ONLY MONEY. Money is not that important in life. Especially when you have plenty of it, but also when you don't have much, like me.

Important things in life are food, a place to stay, health, friends, love, happiness. Money is not on that list. A couple of thousands of years ago there was no money, nobody could buy stuff, but I can't imagine that everyone was unhappy back then.

As long as you realize that money is not that important, and that poker is just one part of your life - instead of 'your life' - it's very possible to live peacefully with poker. It can make a good life even better.

As long as your not banking your whole life on poker ( remind you of anyone), and your bankroll does not = your self worth, than its fine. Also poker (professionally especially) is not for everyone...
