Wait... the most profound thing in this thread was Harrah's attempts to make an online casino. Links? This is truly the most profound thing posted on this thread since the first reports of the NETELLER arrests. It sucks that we have to go through the very douchebags that f-ed us out of online poker, but it's nice to know there is a possibility for a future.

Links & Info please.

A regulated gambling atmosphere would be far worse than the one which existed two weeks ago, certainly not even close to the party heydey. Licensing will eliminate competition and drive up the rakes to astronomical levels (think of what it will do for customer service also). I'd take a free (international) market for gambling over a government protected racket anyday.

I fear this is true. I think if it ever is legal and regulated, that the rake will eat you alive.

That could change if World Poker Tour Enterprises decides to step up its little war against the likes of Full Tilt.

WPT does not currently make a profit. Most of their income came from television dollars. Television makes money by selling ads. Most of the ads on WPT on Travel Channel were Party or Stars. They lost 50% of their major advertisers.

Why would WPT want to shut down online poker?

[/ QUOTE ]

WPT doesnt want to shut down online poker....Its the people who own companies like those with Ron Jeremy, and his endless campaign to give every man in america "more confidence and stamina" in the form of a larger erection, who want it. Think about it, if they get these advertisement slots, no more commercials between 1am and 3am. They've basically hit the jackpot. Ads are cheaper now since they are on a limited time to fill these slots....
So don't blame the WPT....Blame :
Levitra, Cialis, Viagra
Girls Gone Wild,
The Hair Club for Men,
The chick with big boobs who does some kind of infomercial for starting "YOUR OWN" business, (I don't know which one it is....I just stare at her boobs)
The infamous Ron Jeremy,
and last but surely not least Flomax (thank you for reminding me every five minutes that I should have a doctor put their finger in my a$$ at least once a year, otherwise I may suffer from a "weak stream" or worse die).

I don't see how customer service could possibly be adversely affected. I mean, give me poor customer service and I'm done with your company. Period. Licensing, also, will not drive rake up as much as some might think. Why? I would imagine several of the big casinos will be getting online, should that avenue open up. They'll have to compete against each other for rake, correct? Rake is not standard on the strip. It's not standard in LA. Why would it be standard online. Any attempt for the government to impose a required rake would illegal, I would think.

No links for you BUT have no doubt that it is being worked on behind the scenes. A friend of mine was talking to me about this before the bill passed. He has a financial interest in one of the current online poker rooms, as well a sportsbook, and is extremely well connected and obviously concerned.

The person who stated earlier that the casinos were neck deep in this are correct. They are working on their own online rooms and I am guessing will line some pockets and use the fact that if they are based in Nevada then the Nevada Gaming Commision will oversee the "legality" of their operations to push an "exception" through congress. If my memory is correct he too mentioned Harrahs by name.

Again this is a fluid situation so anything could happen. My friend is out of town but it will be interesting to talk with him when he gets back and see what he has heard on his end.

Relatively short list of those who want offshore online gaming to be shut off in the U.S.:

NFL
NBA
Major League Baseball
NCAA
NHL

[/ QUOTE ]

Absolute BS IMO (except maybe college). The NFL could pay lip service all day, but they enjoy quite a bit of revenue due to gambling fueling interest in their games. Of course, they would never publicly admit this.

The whole host of motives have been stated and are correct, and in time I think money will count. One thing I'm sure about, is that there's a higher price to pay than the politicians realize, owing to the psychology of most people.
