Default Ask the Lounge About Men

As our thread on women gets hijacked with questions about men, I think it's time to start up a separate thread on the subject. Not that the discussion about men in there is bad, but it could perhaps do better on its own. Please post all new questions about the men in your life in this thread.

I have a bold prediction: this thread will not be as popular as the thread about women.

The men in my life? I take that as an insult, sir.

Ok I have a question. Why do some men festoon themselves with jewelry and ornaments? I would prefer to hear an answer from someone who actually does this.

blarg,

is it wise to assume that these are the types that know what "festoon" means?

I'd give it about a 50% miss rate. Should be copacetic with the rest. 23 skidoo!

edit: Now I realize you mean specifically the guys wearing this stuff, not just the readers of 2+2. I'd put the guidos at a lower on the vocabulary scale.

Then again, since this is the lounge, we're dealing with probably a pretty high level of guido. Those guys could probably handle going to dictionary.com, so we probably have an effective guido level here that's pretty small. Which would suggest that this might be the wrong place to ask why guidos do what they do. Maybe there's a forum called "Disco Spaghetti" or something that would be better suited to the question.

I do not actually do this but I would hazard a guess that it right along the same line as a peacock being colorful and having a great big tail!

I'm having a problem communicating with the guy in my life - - his name is Luke. Any suggestions?

Which is also expressed differently for different groups of people. This kind of excessively show-offy, wear your bling bling loud and proud seems typical of people whose real or perceived economic status is unsettled or precarious. Perhaps they would like to show others that this is not the case, or just feel that it is not the case, by doing it up big. The nouveau riche and people of marginal economic status seem particularly vulnerable to this kind of glaring, spendy show.
