Default 200NL Poorly played pair + nut flush draw

I ($270) raise A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] to $7 from the CO. Button calls.

Button is very loose (about 60 VPIP, from memory), makes frequent min-raises pre-flop, also CC a lot pre-flop with any hand he would have limped with. Seems more sensible post-flop, but is obviously still fishy.

The blinds fold.

Flop Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

I bet $12 into $17 pot, button calls.

Turn: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] $42 pot, ~ $250 behind.

Check/bet (how much)/check raise?

I like a 2/3 - 3/4 size bet here. If you are raised big, you may have to lay down, don't forget the flush draw is worth a bit less because of the paired board so if he calls this bet and you do hit you may have to be careful.

I checked (I said I played it badly). He bet $20, I called.

since you got there the way you did there's not much more you can do than check/fold or check/call depending on the size

His bet seems a bit weak on the turn. I would think with trips or better he would want to bet more than this, but some people just bet weakly in general, have you observed any betting patterns by him?

If not, I think I might check and hope to showdown cheaply, he likely has AQ or KQ and he is unlikey to lay it down on the river unless you bet huge. If you had raised the turn bet, though, maybe he might have layed down if he is indeed a weak player.

If he bets the river, you probably ought to lay it down unless it is a very small bet.

You played a bit passive, but I wouldn't say it was that poorly played.
